Individual Therapy for adults
Good individual therapy will not just resolve symptoms, but leave you feeling clear, creative, and free.
Together we will get specific about what you want and map out how to get there. If you have multiple challenging symptoms, I can help us move through different ways of working so we don’t get stymied. Here are some of the ways I work:
Experiential Therapy
Centers your experience (thoughts, feelings, sensations) as it is happening in the therapy session.
We engage on purpose with experiences that tend to be difficult for you, and build skills as well as a new vantage point to try new responses.
Helpful for any avoidance-based symptoms, as in OCD, phobias, panic, PTSD and anxiety disorders.
Methods include ACT, ERP, prolonged exposure, and Parts work. I also incorporate DBT and somatic skills in experiential therapy.
ACtion-Focused therapy
Organizes you around your values and helps you break large goals down into actionable steps.
I support you with planning and anticipating barriers to your plan.
We will assign action steps and check in on them.
Supportive for depression, perfectionism, autistic inertia, and ADHD, when there is difficulty initiating or inhibiting action.
Methods include CBT, ACT, DBT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and solution-focused therapy.
Compassion-Focused therapy
Organizes around self-efficacy, mindfulness, deconstructing internalized oppression, and becoming your own best ally.
I help you take perspective on your harsh approaches and try out more humane approaches, not just because they are gentler, but because they are much more effective.
For addressing shame, addictive patterns, or increasing readiness for change.
Methods include Compassion-focused therapy, feminist therapy, and motivational interviewing.
Psychoeducation
If you are trying to better understand yourself and your symptoms, psychoeducation can help. I will curate information specific to you based on the wealth of research I have read over the last 15 years. Psychoeducation can help you make sense of your experience, and you’ll start to see patterns and predict and experiment with what you will need to take good care of yourself.
Couples and Family Therapy
The places we get stuck in our closest relationships are no accident - they are healing waiting to happen. Let’s step back and understand what is happening so we can get out of this rut and jumpstart incredible development for all of you.
With neurodiverse couples and families, I support with education, system building, interpersonal development, and emotional regulation.
